Historic Fredericksburg, Virginia: History Meets the New Cosmopolitan

Fredericksburg, Virginia is a historic city located approximately equidistant from Washington, D.C. to the North, and to Richmond to its South (approximately 50 miles from each). The commuter train linking Fredericksburg to Washington, D.C. has made it a popular home for commuters willing to accept the long train ride in exchange for affordable housing with what they consider a “more livable” environment.”

At the heart of Fredericksburg is the Historic Downtown District, a 40-block area of mostly 18th and 19th century buildings and some of the most magnificent historic homes you will find anywhere. There are roughly 100 shops, restaurants, and boutiques in the downtown area, which is also close to the Rappahonack River and its four block “antique row.”

The restaurants and shops provide a wide range of alternatives, from the hip and modern, to classic French and Italian venues.

The historic homes in Old Town Fredericksburg are, for the most part, spectacular. For those seeking elegance and old world magnificence, it would be difficult to find similar homes in the immediate D.C area without paying twice the price, or more.
